Chung-Yi Lin
Assistant Professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences at Clemson University

Chung-Yi Lin, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences at Clemson University. His research focuses on human-water systems modeling to investigate complex interactions among the natural environment, infrastructure, technology, and society for intelligent water system planning, management, and operation. He employs system-based modeling approaches, including agent-based modeling, control theory, mathematical programming, data science, and decision theory, to support risk-based decision-making and foster collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
Before joining Clemson University, Dr. Lin completed postdoctoral research appointments at Virginia Tech and Cornell University. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Lehigh University and an M.S. and B.S. in Bioenvironmental Systems Engineering from National Taiwan University. Dr. Lin currently serves as the Social Media Chair for the American Geophysical Union’s Water & Society Technical Committee and as a member of the ASCE-EWRI Environmental and Water Resources System Committee.
I am actively recruiting fully funded Ph.D. students! Master’s and undergraduate opportunities are also available. As a new faculty member, I welcome diverse research ideas and am flexible in shaping projects. Please feel free to reach out to discuss your interests and potential research directions.
